It's been said that those who don't know history are destined to repeat it, but often it seems like we are destined to repeat past mistakes no matter what. How can we change the world for the better?

First up? :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm not entirely sure why I'm drawn to dystopian novels. I guess on the one hand I'm fascinated by depictions of a bleak future, and on the other, I like the literary aspect. What is it this author is warning us of.
My favorite is Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I also like his short "Harrison Bergeron."
I think it's an interesting genre. You combine fantasy elements with modern settings.

I'm not sure what it is about dystopian fiction that I love. I think it's because you're mixing science fiction with fiction about basic human nature. It gives us a chance to see humanity at its worst and its best. I also like how most dystopian authors choose to comment on our current state of living, but of course the best fiction talks about it naturally without being preachy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI discovered my love for dystopian fiction shortly after I received my Kindle for Christmas in 2010. Prior to that I seemed to read basically the same genre/authors that I had for years. The Kindle however opened up a whole new world for me not just in regards to the various genre's but also with all the various authors who chose not to publish with any of the major publishers. I was like a kid in a candy store as I gazed at all the various offerings for my Kindle! I then stumbled upon the dystopian genre and I've been hooked ever since. Maybe one of the reasons I enjoy it so much is because it truly does allow me to "escape" from everyday life while I'm reading.
